SRH and KKR try to avoid finishing last

Both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have had a dismal season thus far. Their position at the bottom of the points standings, alongside Delhi Capitals, reflects this. The table also hints that not all is hopeless, at least not yet. Even the Delhi Capitals, who started the tournament with five straight losses, are still in the running for a playoff spot at this point because of how close the race is.

After a strong start, KKR's form has dipped, while SRH's performance has been quite inconsistent. The club that wins on Thursday, though, will be confident that they can mount a late recovery to join the other teams in the race for a playoff position.

In their earlier matchup this season, Eden Gardens saw a high-scoring contest where Harry Brook finally succeeded in lighting the IPL on fire with a scorching century. This time around, Brook's assignment is expected to be more difficult. SRH would be misguided to make any other changes after reuniting Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma up top. The top has already seen far too many changes, which has caused instability. But if the batting collapses, Brook in the middle might have to deal with a bombardment of spin from the KKR spin three.

However, SRH does have additional hitters to take on the spin trio. Overall and mathematically speaking, they appear to be the more advanced outfit. However, KKR can find comfort in the knowledge that SRH have only triumphed once at home thus far. Even though they lost to Gujarat Titans in their most recent match, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Andre Russell's runs from the bat are unquestionably encouraging. Russell has recently grown disgruntled with his batting position, and there is now undoubtedly a case for him to be moved up to at least No. 5. The victor of this match will maintain their aspirations, but the loser will be the first team to record their sixth loss of the season. Beyond that, comebacks are hardly assured.
